JR - Founder of Plain Sight

Hi! My name's JR and I'm the founder of Plain Sight.  I'm not a big fan of talking about myself, but here we go!

I'm a single Dad from Brisbane, a paediatric nurse of 20 years, type 1 diabetic since the age of 4, former amateur men's Aussie Rules footy player and coach, cricketer and world traveller.  For most of my adult life I carried more than I realised. It wasn't just responsibility, it was endless self doubt that quietly shaped how I saw myself and the world.  Despite many setbacks I kept moving, kept showing up, kept a brave face on, feigned confidence….Essentially I wasn't me.  Something had to change.

In 2022, that changed happened.

I went through a guided, intentional experience — the kind that strips away the noise and  processes the inner demons. What came out the other side wasn't a new identity or a set of borrowed beliefs. It was something simpler and far more powerful: clarity. More love. Less fear. And a deep curiosity about why we, as people, treat each other the way we do.

For the first time in a long time, I felt a kind of free thinking I hadn't felt since I was a kid.

What I began to see is this: a lot of what we believe, how we react, even how we judge each other — it isn't really ours. It's learned. Shaped by the noise we let in. News cycles built on outrage. Social media built on comparison. Shock jocks, Influencers, algorithms, reality TV, even sport — all subtly telling us who to be, what to think, and who to blame.

And over time, that noise disconnects us — from ourselves and from each other.

But when you step back and really look — not at headlines, but at people — something else becomes obvious. Most of us aren't enemies. We're just trying to get through the day. To provide, to grow, to love who we love, and to feel like we belong.

I've seen this with my own eyes travelling the world. Some of the so-called "poorer" countries I've visited have had the happiest, most connected people I've ever met. That's not a coincidence — it's a sign of how deeply our brains have been programmed into measuring life the wrong way. Happiness isn't a destination you buy your way to. It's something that grows when people feel free, feel loved, and feel seen.

That realisation changed everything for me.

And if I'm being completely honest about what I want — not just for this brand, but for the world — it's simple. I want peace. I want love. I want happiness and freedom for every single person on this planet. Not just the lucky ones. Everyone. That's not naive. That's the whole point.

Plain Sight was born from that shift. Not from anger, but from clarity.  I also felt the desire to freely express these thoughts and feelings to improve and inspire people without coming across as a free-thinking lunatic!

It was also born from seeing the gap between the world we're told exists and the one that's actually right in front of us — if we're willing to look.

The people who embrace Plain Sight get that. They're not just focused on their own growth — they're focused on lifting the people around them too. Every hoodie, every tee carries a message that's meant to be seen. A reminder to the person walking behind. A spark for someone who needed it that day. Because real strength isn't about standing above people — it's about reaching back and bringing them with you.

We rise by lifting others.

This brand is my way of contributing to that shift. One message at a time. One shirt at a time.

It's about choosing thought over reaction. Curiosity over judgment. Growth over comfort. It's about challenging what we've been taught to accept without question, and remembering that we're allowed to think for ourselves.

Most of all, it's about moving forward — even when it's hard. Especially when it's hard.

MOTIVATE . IMPROVE . INSPIRE

Because real change doesn't happen all at once. It happens slowly. Quietly. Through small decisions that ripple outward.

If a shirt can make someone pause, think, question, or even just feel a little lighter for a moment — that matters.

That's the mission. I wish you all the best in whatever you're striving for. You can do it.
